Missy Cleveland is an inspiring self-taught interpretive painter, whose vibrant journey through the world of art has spanned over 25 years. Drawing from her extensive experience as a muralist and decorative faux finisher, she has cultivated a uniquely enthusiastic approach to color, propelling her artistic creations into a realm of joyful, fun, and uplifting works. Missy's art is a symphony of various mediums, where no material is deemed off-limits; she masterfully combines paint, pencils, fabric, found objects, and even furniture to create pieces that are layered in texture and meaning.

Initially rooted in decorative wall painting and murals, Missy's artistic evolution has embraced smaller canvases, yet her true passion remains anchored in large-scale works. Currently, she collaborates with Old Hickory Tannery, providing one-of-a-kind leather hides for furniture. This partnership allows her to explore her creativity in a rewarding and functional manner, as these pieces transform into art forms one can lounge upon.

For Missy, the act of creation is a cherished gift, one she believes should spread joy and inspire others. Her commitment to fostering creativity extends to other artists, making it both a calling and a privilege. This passion led her to receive the Innovative Artist Grant from the United Arts Council of Catawba County, further illuminating her path as she illustrated her first children's book. In a gesture of gratitude, she distributed copies to local libraries and charities, acknowledging that her enthusiasm for "picture books" ignited when she was a child, thus nurturing her desire to pay it forward. Active in her community, Missy lends her talents to the local Public Art Commission, the Downtown Newton Development. Association, and serves on the advisory board for NoCo Arts Newton. Each of these roles further deepens her commitment to public art and the creative collective.
